He was supposed to learn kaioh-ken from King Kai, before the fight with nappa and Vegeta. But this is obviously not before Frieza saga where he can go super saiyan. I would go with the alternate timeline explanation though because half of the z fighters here were killed or maimed in that fight with the Saiyans. Been a long time since I’ve watched the series or the movie though, so I’m speculating all the way.

Timeline wise seems to be right around the end of Saiyan saga.
turles and raditz were two great characters in DBZ that shouldnt have been killed off so early

Turles is a bastard. It’s stupid to have the main antagonist beat the shit out of the protagonist like that, even though the protagonist kills the antagonist 5 minutes later. In basic terms, Turles kicked Goku’s ass 5 minutes before Goku kills him.

frieza destroyed the planet itself, but the planet was already in ruins and devastated by the war with tuffles, that’s why the saiyans got involved with the Planet Trade under Frieza. If Saiyans natural born desire to fight could only be satisfied with cruelty, then Saiyans like Bardock and Vegeta never would have renounced their evil ways. Frieza destroyed their home planet because he feared an uprising, IDK if he knew anything about the Super Saiyan legend or if he even took it seriously.
