to answer, A the frieza saga and character was not thought of yet, akira was just going along, which is why dbz has a few contradictions, also if u were to justify it, vegeta hates frieza and is planning to over throw him someday which is why he goes from planet top planet, fighting to increase his power (this is a plot device only used in namek saga, and on perfect cell) so he wants goku to fight withhim, so they can get stronger than frieza and rule the universe
Those are good points but int The Legendary Super Saiyan Moive It is said the Frieza destroyed the Saiyans home planet with Goku was still a child but then again this movie was made years later then this episode
3. Vegeta states that he is the strongest person in the Universe (although that couldve been for intimidation, and based on his intelligence i would expect as much)
4. The show has been showing most of Vegetas and Nappas adventures, and they seem to operate independently. Even taking a whole year to goto a planet. While not selling the ones they have already cleared. Like the planet they were on when raditz died. (But also this could just be part of their job)
By watching these earlier episodes it’s easy to tell that the concept of Frieza hasn’t been developed yet. Example:
1. Nappa said in an earlier episode that him and Vegeta could sell this planet for a good bundle, and maybe even get two. When in fact if Frieza was in charge they would be less optimistic about getting paid seeing as how the bulk of the money goes to Frieza.
2. Vegeta asks Goku to join him so the two of them could rule planets together. But Frieza would be the one ruling.
I jus love how passionate he is bout his craft, and da way he speak on it, u gotta feel him…and he reminds me alot of myself da way he’d rather die wit pride, than live a coward…classic character,

i actually prefer the manga version of DBZ over the anime. the anime doesn’t get me interested. i don’t know why. manga just seems more exciting.

But Raditz sucks compared to Kakarot and the other two saiyans
vegeta – nappa – goku – and raditz woulda been a bad ass team of saiyans (only if goku joined them of course and raditz hadn’t died )
